Police-related matters

Q. I will be moving to Canada, and was told that I need to submit a Criminal Record Certificate. How can I get one?

A.

This is also called the “Toko Shomei” or “Hanzai Keireki Shomeisho”. If registered as a resident within Kumamoto Prefecture, or if your final place of residence in Japan is within Kumamoto Prefecture, you can file an application for this certificate at the Identification Division, Criminal Investigation Department, Kumamoto Prefectural Police Headquarters. There is no processing fee.

You will need to present a document that confirms the necessity of the certificate (document issued by a public institution) and a valid passport. For information on the necessary documents, etc., please refer to the website below.

You must call Kumamoto Prefectural Police in advance.
